I was going to do a spoof April Fool’s post today but somehow it didn’t feel quite right. This is going to be a sad day for many people in the public and voluntary sectors. As the financial year turns and the money runs out, the great job-shedding begins.
I’ve had a few notes from friends over the last few days, giving me their new email addresses and contact details – Hotmail and Yahoo replacing the dot govs. Some are happy, especially if they have long service and can get at some of their pension. Others have no idea what they are going to do next and fear for their futures.
Until now, the public spending cuts have had a bit of a phony-war feel. As Patrick Butler said earlier this week, this is where it really starts.
