What’s the dress code for a riot?

Dress down angst has been a recurring theme on this blog but here’s a new twist on it from one worried banker:

I feel that I have lost touch with society since I don’t even know what to wear to a riot anymore.

I will just have to assume that torn jeans and Converse will be good enough to blend in.

And I will hope that the rioters have not organised to wear pinstriped suits to their disorder party. Because then we would stick out like sore thumbs, and poorly-dressed ones at that.

Which would never do.

As one banker pointed out, in the City there’s even a uniform of  “shirt, jumper, chinos and deck shoes” for the dress-down days.

Once they’re outside the City bubble, or if that bubble is pierced by the rest of the world, these poor chaps have no idea what to do and, more importantly, no idea what to wear. Perhaps some of the protest groups could send out instructions and a dress code guide, just to save anyone any embarrassment.

  1. I was considering collecting a number of dogs on strings and standing by Bank tube station offering them for hire as protective camouflage…

That sounds like good opportunist capitalism. Go for it!
