When multi-national companies decide to implement global policies, it is often a euphemism for imposing an American model on the rest the world. A friend of mine, who is a senior executive in one such US-headquartered company, sent me this amusing note last week:
Just been interviewed by our “Global Head of Diversity”. Just about managed to keep a straight face. How many African British in my London team? How many African Arabs in my Dubai team? How many African Russians in my Moscow team? She didn’t know what to ask about my Johannesburg team. Priceless!
It’s good to see a “Global Head of Diversity” who really understands…erm… global diversity.
